Do it again Mr.!!!!!!!!!

What an excellent start to the season. Only five players but we had lots of fun. Kol “The Statsman” took top spot. Richard “Long Mallard” came second closely followed by “The One and Only” Mr Roger in third and Dean “Double Dean” in fourth. The results don’t always reflect the quality of individual performances and unfortunately Carl came in last on the day with only one point. This was quite a surprise as Carl scored six excellent goals (his session record) and put together some great passing moves. Well done everyone  and better luck next time Carl.

Last week were joined by a “chatter” or a “takeover” of youths. I can’t decide if it was a "chatter" as they seemed unable to ever stop talking or a “takeover” as at every opportunity they took over our bikes, our mallards and the court. However they were an nice bunch of lads who showed a lot of skill  and potential. Could they be the future of Hull Bicycles Polo.

Perhaps the highlight of the day was the Dean “Double Dean” Dent show. In an attempt to impress the young boys Dean soon started to perform some impressive 360 degree wheelie mallet spins thingies (or something like that). Needless to say his attempt to impress succeeded and he was soon overwhelmed with shouts of “Do it again Mr!..... Do it again Mr”. But hidden by the rapturous cheers, chants and applause a solitary voice mumbled quietly in the background .... “I bet he falls off”.

This week we will be mainly dodging the rain but don’t worry if its wet and gloomy this morning it will be all cleared up in time for polo. Richard “Long Mallard” is having a week off this week. Yes you read that right. Richard is not playing. No really he’s not playing. He is excused as it is his little uns 5th birthday tomorrow although the conspiracy theorists amongst us think there is more to it as tomorrow is also the final race of the MotoGp. Coincidence hmmm?

Never mind tomorrow sees the return of Nick “The Shouty One” and PC Paul “The Hardcourt Sheriff”. Who knows may even see a Young Jack  or a Jacob on the court again.

COME ON DOWN AND LET’S PLAY POLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Winter Season Starts Today

Wrap up well because the winter season has arrived. Expect shorter darker, more miserable sessions with every kind of rain possible. We may even get hail or even snow. Sometimes it may seem like the end of the world is upon us. It will feel like the cold will never end and we will be frozen forever. The court will be icy, slippery, and even more uneven than normal. We will stare in wonder at the floodlights that were and dream of the day when they shine again. But none of that really matters. Its only a bit of weather. A glitch in the world that is polo. A hindrance to overcome and we shall overcome. We will don our shorts and vests. Place our helmets firmly on our heads and raise our mallards high and exclaim as loud as we can so all the world can hear “Fek its cold I’m going to put another layer on”.

Congratulations to Sir Richard “Long Mallard” on his second successive league victory and very well done to PC Paul “the Hard Court Sheriff” for his 2nd place and Dean “Double Dean” his last minute move into 3rd spot.

Thanks to everyone who turns up and keeps bicycle polo thriving in Hull. Well done everyone.

NOW LET’S PLAY POLO!!!!!

Double Dean & The Long Mallard

Two weeks ago saw an epic battle between Richard “Long mallard” Franks and Dean “Double Dean” Dent. Both players were on top form. Although Dean won the most games Richard was involved in all 5 of the bonus point games putting him equal with Dean at the top with 22 points. It was only goal difference that separated them at the end of the day with Richard eventually winning. Very unlucky Dean. A great performance by both. Well done both.

Between the hacking and giggling Young Jack put in another great performance and secured his third successive third place. Well done Jack. Maybe this week you could come second or even first. Well done Jack.

Newbie Jacob put in a great performance at his first “Mix It Up” session coming in forth place beating Carl on goal difference. He even managed to score a goal and has gone straight in as the forth ranked player. Well done Jacob.

Despite an excellent performance and a lot of singing “I am the One and Only” Mr Roger only managed 6th place on the day. We wont mention “Hard Court Sheriff’s” or “The Statsman’s” performance apart from to say that they didn’t do very well.

This week is the last week of the Autumn season. Don’t worry though the winter season starts next week. Richard is well out in front at the top of the table and unless he doesn’t play today and we all play a gazillion games it looks like he is staying there. Poor performances this week from Kol and Paul could see them lose their second and third places with Dean, Mr Roger, Jack and Nick all within striking distance. Its going to be a very interesting day indeed so come along and let’s play polo.

Big Bangs and Origami

Sunday saw a very warm muggy September day which seemed to come off the back off a wet and changeable period. Seven foolhardy polo-sters turned up with glee in their eyes and fire in their bellies. But the reality left us all sapped of energy and devoid of much conversation.

Having said that we had another jolly good session with the characteristic comedic events. Mr Roger “The One and Only” ended up following through only to emerge wearing the goal like the cape of Joseph Merrick. PC Paul decided to stop dead in front of a player thus giving us a detailed lesson in wheel origami and Sir Richard Long Malard of Dickiness spectacularly burst his rear tyre spraying the court in tube healing slime.

Also some polo was played! In fact Mr Roger played exceedingly well dethroning Sir Richard Long Franks from his recent success.

Unfortunately it didn’t go well for Kol who answered so many questions about the rules that he was distracted and finished last.

In other news Dean “Double Dean” finished 4th. Which should please him!

This week is Sunday Funday. So put your bike jumble finds to good use (Paul) and bring a friend for lots of fun and jollity

...and a hole in one

Richard “Long Mallet” got his third win of the season last week and after his he recent success he is now ranked #1. If that wasn’t enough for him he is also number one in the league and the top goal scorer. I think he likes the number “1”. Well done Richard.

Young Jack “The River Horse” was on fire and couldn’t stop winning and scoring in the first half of the session. He was well on his way to winning the day but he was getting a little bit tired and maybe needed a nap. I’m sure there was a bit of giggling going on too which may have affected hits performance in the second half of the session. Nevertheless Jack put in an excellent performance and took third spot on the day.

Guinness Dave had the most interesting shot of the day. Although he missed the goal the ball went straight in to the back area and landed delicately in hole of a roll of gaffer tape (or bicycle polo net repairing sticky cloth on a roll as we like to call it). A most excellent shot Dave. I’m sure in that game called “golf” it may have scored you something but in the bicycle polo world it was just “interesting”.

Somehow Kol “The Statsman” managed to come second and PC Paul “ The Hard Court Sheriff” came in with a solid mid table 4th place.

Adam “The Workaholic”, Nick “The Souty One” and “Guiness” Dave could only be separated at the bottom of the table on goal difference

Well done everyone.

Richard "Long Mallet" II

Wow. Richard “Long Mallet” got his second win of the season with an even more convincing win. Not losing a single game and only drawing three, Richard got an impressive 95.83% performance beating his previous best of 83.33%. He is now ranked #2 just behind Adam “The Workaholic”. Well done Sir.

“Guinness” also Dave put in an excellent performance to come third on the day. His highest finish of the season. Some say that his skills have improved, some say it was his new mallet but when it comes down to it he did bring a “Lucy” with him and that really seemed to up his game quite tremendously.

Lucy joined in and did a spot of score keeping for us. Her score keeping style was a bit different to say the least. Sometimes intriguing, often confusing but mainly just made up. Thanks for helping out Lucy .

Carl joined us again after not playing since his debut a year ago. He didn’t do too bad either beating his brother PC Paul “The Hard Court Sheriff” by two points. Well done Carl. In fact PC Paul had a bit of a nightmare. He managed to keep off the bottom spot but only on goal difference from Dean “Double Dean”  who although looked very impressive on the day, failed to rack up the points.

After his impressive second place last week Mr Roger is taking the day off to take “The Boy” down to that there London. Hopefully he won’t catch “cockernee” whilst he’s down there. I hear it can be quite difficult to ride your bicycle with a “cockernee”.

Well done everyone.

Almost Caught By The Fuzz!

Last season Adam “The Workaholic” came along for one session won every game and scored all the goals. Last week saw Adam’s first attendance of the Autumn season and once again he won although not quite as convincingly as the previous season beating PC Paul by just 2 points.. He even managed to score several “Hipster Hat Tricks”. A very good performance indeed. Hopefully he will return to play again this season. Well done Adam.

PC Paul “The Hard Court Sheriff” has had a couple of excellent results recently coming a very close second in the last two sessions. Its not going to be long before he wins. Could it be this week. Rumours are that he has a new mallard with a highly polished head and a slightly longer shaft. I’m sure he will be prodding and poking us with it today and there is a high possibility of him knocking his balls right in the back of the net.

The league is getting very interesting indeed. Nick “The Shouty One” still tops the table on 56 points but he is closely followed by Richard “Long Mallet”, Kol “The Statsman” and PC Paul “The High Court Sheriff” all on 54 points and only separated by goal difference. Dean “Double Dean” is also in the mix on 49 points. Today could see everything change.

Richard “Long Mallet” turned up with a brand new mallet which seemed to work quite well as he was the top goal scorer on the day although for some reason he seemed to want to put it under his front wheel a lot. This did result in a slight bit of damage to his thigh.

Mr Roger had a bit of a nightmare session coming last and only winning one of his games even though scored 11 goals. This is Mr Roger’s worst start to the season since records began but don’t write him off yet he has the ability to turn it round and a few good results could soon see him quickly climbing back up the table.

Bent Wheel, OG & The “F”Word

Richard “Long Mallet” pushed his trusty steed to the max last week. He unsuccessfully attempted a few very tight turns . When I say a few I mean a lot. He seemed to spend more time on the ground than he did on his bike. Nevertheless his over exuberance soon paid dividends and he eventually succeeded in bucking front wheel. Even with a buckled wheel he still managed to go on and win the session. Well done Richard.

Own goals seemed to be the order of the day with everyone managing to score one apart from “Guinness” Dave. PC Paul “ The Hard Court” Sheriff” even managed to score two. Despite the own goals PC Paul went on to come second on the day.

Andy “Gandhi” wasn’t on form last week and he couldn’t match his previous weeks epic blood covered 2nd place and ended up coming in last. Perhaps the injury was taking its toll on Andy or maybe he was a bit distracted by his upcoming date with a young lady. Back of the bike sheds stuff.

The least we say about the “The Shouty One’s” verbal performance last week the better. Here’s a pictorial representation  of Nick’s use of the “F” word.

Gandhi’s a Cheeky Boy

What a session it was last week. We had plenty of sunshine, lots of cracking goals and some cheeky passing moves but possibly the day’s unforgettable incident was a bit of mallard to head action involving Young Jack and Andy “Gandhi”.

Young Jack and Andy “Gandhi” were in a heated cheek to cheek goalmouth battle for the ball. Gandhi was putting some excellent defensive work and was doing a great job facing up to Jack’s wafting and giggling as Jack frantically tried to get the ball into the back of the net. Jack’s over enthusiastic style soon caused chaos as his mallet went cutting through the ball and straight into Andy’s face. Even though it was only Andy play stopped immediately and “Guinness” Dave (aka Nurse Beckwith) was straight in there with his baby wipes. Gandhi was soon cleaned up and back on his bike. Luckily Andy and Jack didn’t have a face off and Andy showed he was man enough to turn the other cheek and went on to come second in the session. Very well done Andy.

There was another incident that day but it is one we have vowed never to be mentioned or discussed ever again. Needless to say everyone who played last week needs to brush up on their “Spot The Ball” skills.

On the face of it a great day was had by all. After all we must be doing something right as we didn’t scar, kill or maim anyone.

Well done everyone!

Back From The USA

Two weeks ago saw the welcome return of Dean “Double Dean” Dent.
After taking America by storm he was soon back in the saddle knocking his balls all over the court.
He even treat us to some of his classic 360o moves.
Not distracted at all by Young Jack’s incessant giggling Dean went on to comfortably win the session.

Nick “The Shouty One’s” arse seemed to have recovered sufficiently for him to secure second place although he did try to “do it all by himself”

Despite giggling, being easily distracted and having a complete disregard for the rules Young Jack put in an excellent performance and was the top goal scorer with 13 on the day. He even managed to get four goals in one game (gready f@&*kr).  PC Paul “The Hard Court Sheriff” also had his shooting head on and came a close second with 11 goals.

In a tough battle Richard “Long Mallet” just pipped Mr Roger “The One and Only” to third place. Guinness Dave made his return after a very long absence. I think maybe he’s not been drinking quite as much Guinness as he should have as he only managed to win one of  his games. Let’s hope he does better this week. More Guinness Dave.

As always well done to everyone who turned up and made it another great Sunday.
