134 Days Later

Nick “The Shouty One” last won a session on the last day of the 2015/6 winter season. Now that’s a long, long time ago. He eventually got his well deserved win last Sunday. Well done Nick. Watch out peeps. Now he’s got back into winning ways there could be no stopping him. In other news Mr Roger (under no pressure) scored an own goal.

WOW...FOUR YEARS

Four years ago this week.  Dean “Double Dean”,  Nick “The Shouty One”,  Kol “The Statsman” and Mark “The Absentee played the first ever session of hardcourt bicycle polo in Hull. It was cold. It was very very wet. We laughed a lot. We were full of whisky and we weren’t very good. It was possibly the best day of bicycle polo ever.

Four years later we are still doing it and today the sun will be shining.

Back To Number One

An excellent session last week saw Sir Richard Long Mallard comfortably win the day by seven clear points. Cracking goals and some very good passing moves ensured that not only did he win the day but also regained his #1 ranking.

The Hard Court Sheriff, played a great all round game with some great shots and marvellous defensive moves. He even passed the ball too. He put in his best performance of the season so far to come second on the day. Well done Paul

Young Jack hacked his way to third place on the day although he did score some incredible goals.

Nick was the top scorer on the day with 18 goals although this could have been more as in one game he had at least 18 shots on target before he eventually got one in.

Kol didn’t do very well on the day and stumbled into 5th spot. He scored a couple of impressive goals but his highlight of the day was  completing the “Four Corners & The Spot” in an incredible 53 seconds. The first player to get under the one minute mark.

Mr Roger only got to sing “I am the on one only” nine times but when he does sing it, he sings it well.

Dean came along and did a bit of reffing which is always amusing.

Oh, Carl “The Iceman” was there too.

HANDS UP FOR MARKUS

HE CAME, HE SAW, HE FELL FLAT ON HIS BACK

It was great to see Markus joining us again last Sunday but it wasn’t his excellent skills, his not losing a single game or his almost scoring all the goals that impressed us on the day. It was his most excellent celebration after scoring a cracking goal. Riding back to his own half with hands raised triumphantly in the air and a victorious smile on his face things soon started to go wrong. His front wheel started lifting. Slowly at first but then faster and faster until eventually (unable to unclip in time) he found himself flat on his back on the center spot with his bicycle still attached. An excellent celebration Markus and well done on a convincing win.

FOUR CORNERS AND THE SPOT

Last week saw the second instalment of our new Four Corners and the Spot game. Kol went first (to show how it’s done) but that didn’t go too well and he got his worst time so far. Markus put in a good performance and got a best time of 1:03 just 1 second behind the current fastest time of 1:02. David  put in a good 2nd round time of 1:15 to take 2nd place on the day. PC Paul couldn’t beat his first round time of  1:17 and finished 3rd.
Now then Young Jack just hasn’t got the hang of this game yet. Hacking and wafting will not do the job young man. He got an incredible 2:34 in his first round. We don’t have a time for his 2nd round as we think he is still going ...and going ......and going .......and going.

THE SUMMER SEASON STARTS TODAY

You all remember summer don’t you. You know.... That time of year when there is a 95% chance of rain, occasional snow storms, definitely some hail and every now and again the sky gets all weird and catches fire. The big yellow burning blob can sometimes get so hot that we may have to take a layer or two off.

This is a very rare event and not may people have seen it. So if you’ve not witnessed it before please... DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE BURNING YELLOW BLOB IN THE SKY. No it won’t damage your eyes or anything like that but while you are mesmerised by the phenomenon someone will steal the ball off you and score a goal. Helicopters are distracting too so don’t look at them either .... oh and kids on them silly little motorbikes and Young Jack (he’s very distracting) pay no attention to him.

“WINNING AT ALL COSTS”

I don’t know what happened during the rest of last weeks session but the Carl and Kol show was the highlight of the day. It was a 2v2 and both players were fired up and looking for a win. They soon found themselves a goal down and were not too happy about it. They quickly got their game together and Kol brought them back to one all with a cracking shot from an excellent pass from Carl.

THEN THE CHAOS HAPPENED

With the ball just millimeters away from the oppositions goal line and Kol’s mallet poised ready for a tap in the heat of the moment got to Carl and he decided to (quite forcefully) take Kol out and tap the goal in himself. Kol was most disgruntled and threw his bike at Carl. Then it got really silly. Kol decided that Carl had been a bit greedy and decided to tackle him as often as possible which resulted in scoring a goal himself.

Once the giggling and silliness was out of the way they got their acts together and went on to win 4-1. Needles to say Carl went on to win the session and Kol didn’t but don’t be fooled by their bizarre playing style. This double-act could go a long way. Who knows they may even be the next Chuckle Brothers.

Let's hope today is as much fun. Wellington Lane Hardcourt 2pm. Everyone welcome to come and have a go.

I don't believe it. He spent all day knocking his own players off and fiddling with his chain. How the hell did he manage to win again. Well done Carl

After All You're My Butterball

What an interesting and exciting session it was last week. Only six players but a lot of great moves and a lot of fun. After a tight first game Richard “Long Mallard” soon got in to the HBP way of things in the second game. Richard and Carl were taking on Mr Roger and Kol who had soon taken the lead. It appeared that Richard wanted to get in on the scoring but unfortunately he scored at the wrong end. Although it was a very impressive own goal was it was possibly a better shot than a lot of the goals on the day. Just to rub it in Mr Roger and Kol went on to win 5-0.

That was a good as it got for “The Statsman” on the day. He seemed to spend the rest of the afternoon hitting the ball as hard as he could at the other players bikes. He managed this quite effectively knocking “The Shouty One” off his bike and leaving him in a crumpled heap. He also managed to shoot the ball right under Sir Richarg Longmallard’s front wheel. It looked like he was having fun but it wasn’t winning games. He had a faint glimmer of a return of form in game 10 with a spectacular backhanded cross court shot which flew into the back of the net. He also went on to score an own goal.

Mr Roger on the other hand was on spectacular form knocking in 13 goals and only losing 2 of his games. He want on to comfortably win the session by a clear 7 points. The echoes of “I am the One and Only” are still ringing around the court.

Richard was the top scorer on the day with a league season best of 25 goals. He went on to come second on the day just one point  in front of Nick “The Shouty One” who despite having a squishy brake and constantly looking for a bizarre sized allen key, put in an excellent performance to come third.

We were once again lucky to be joined by Dave who put in an excellent performance. Dave is playing in Bristol this weekend with his team “Fringe Division”. Good luck Dave and we hope you have a great weekend.

I would also like to thank Guinness Dave and Dean “Double Dean” who came down on the day and did some most excellent refereeing. Dave even supplied us with some very rare Scotch “Gristle” Eggs.

Well I think I’ve mentioned everyone so LET’S PLA...... Oh wait a minute... I forgot Carl.

What can I say? I’m sure he scored some goals and did some passing and stuff but all I can remember is THAT PASS. “THE PASS TO NOWHERE”. Carl’s polo name is “Iceman” but I’m sure he should now be called “Butterball”. I don’t want to go on about it Carl but what the f..... oops luckily I’ve run out of space. LET’S PLAY POLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
